hello,
i have recently installed vista beta 2 inside of a vmware session. the disk size for this installation is 30GB. Vista installed no problem, however i have the 'windows 2000' look and feel. when i try to change to the vista theme, i get the background to show up, but nothing else except for an error message reading "the visual styles could not be applied"
i have searched the web including this newsgroup and yielded no results. could someone help me out please? thanks!

Did you install the VM Ware Tools before trying this? How much RAM have you assigned to the VM? -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

i have allocated 384MB of ram to the virtual machine, and do indeed have vmware tools installed

I have not found any problems with running VMWare at all yet. Is there still a themes service? If so is that running?

I can get XP Style to work in VMWare, but not Aero.

i checked and the the service is running, set to automatic startup.. however i think the problem may be something to do with the graphics driver... i have a radeon mobility x300, i downloaded the beta driver from ati's website for vista, upon installation it will not work correctly, gives me an error 14 device could not start in the device manger, ergo no ati driver and goes to the svga primative 4bit display mode

As far as I can tell, the 'virtual display adapter' that VMWare provides will not support anything else. To get the aero look and feel, you have to install it 'for real.

Have you installed the VMWare Tools into the VM? I had the basic theme running after installing them.

Yes, I did. I guess I'm getting confused on thems. I can get a little bit, but not Aero. Have you gotten Aero to run? "Jane C" wrote in message

Limitation of a vm... aero, but no aero glass :( (I actually had my partner fooled into thinking I was running it for real at the time using the full screen option!) Now I'm dual booting Vista with XP x64, so I've dumped off the vm.
